It’s August and this month we’re celebrating one year free from seizures. It’s been a beautiful year with no episodes that forced us into the hospital, or held us hostage at home, or kept us up all night. It’s been a year free from EEGs, MRIs, blood work, and drug induced mood swings. Instead, this year we biked, ran, skied, swam, and danced fearlessly. Although many of Bernadette’s deficits remain unchanged and we don’t know what tomorrow may bring, it’s hard to imagine living in sadness and anxiety when there is certain joy and peace in every day that’s seizure free.

We've tried for years to teach her how to use her bike breaks. She'll figure it out one of these days. Until then, she's perfectly happy riding a too small bike around an empty parking lot :)

Growth has been slow in the garden. Early spring was cold and I may not have added enough nutrients to the soil at planting. Whatever the reason, my plants are not climbing their cages as they've done by this time in the past. But when I look really closely, I can spot some buds and blooms and even a few tiny fruits. Patience, patience, patience!

I did it!

I replaced the outdoor faucet that has been driving me bananas since we moved in. It used to spray water up under the siding. It took me two days, about a dozen youtube videos, three trips to Lowe's, and Bright's help drilling, but the new one works beautifully. Just in time for planting :)
